Job Description

Habitat for Humanity Leeward Oahu, Inc., located in Waianae, Hawaii, is seeking a talented individual to act as the AmeriCorps*VISTA Construction Development Coordinator.

Program responsibilities:

- Create a system for construction management and project management. The VISTA member will be responsible for developing the build Site Operations Manual after close analysis of build site management by the completion of their project.
- The VISTA member will work closely with the office staff and key construction volunteers to track the process of planning and permitting for build projects. This includes networking with planning and permitting agencies to gain contacts that will streamlline the process. The VISTA member will be responsible for creating a Planning and Permitting document that will be used by future volunteers and paid construction staff during the initial stages of the build.
- The VISTA member will work with the Executve Director and key construction vounteers to develop a basic house design that will then be approved by the board. The VISTA member will be responsible for creating a formal document that the affiliate will reference for all future projects.
- The VISTA member will work to develop a safety policy for build sites that complies with the HFHI model. The VISTA member will develop a Safety Manual by the completion of their project, create a comprehensive list of materials and safety equipment needed to comply with the HFHI model, and develop a safety briefing for volunteers at the build site.
- The VISTA member will network in the community and build positive relationships with volunteers, vendors/suppliers, and local construction companies. The VISTA member will assist in identifying potential key volunteers to take on leadership roles in construction.
Required Skills

Requirements:

- High school graduate with at least two years of construction experience
- Effective communications (oral and written) and listening skills
- Attention to details
- Self-starter with ability to work both independently and with other staff and volunteers
- Good computer skills, particularly in the Microsoft Office package
- Ability to relate to people of different races, faiths and incomes
- Physical ability to complete work on the job site even during inclement weather
- Requires the physical ability to sit, walk, and/or stand for prolonged periods of time. This individual must also have the use of all senses, to include, but not limited to, sight, hearing, smell and taste while possessing the ability to stand, stoop, bend, grasp, and/or hold to complete warehouse work.
- The position requires persons who are able to safely lift at least 50-100 pounds.
- Age 18 or older
- A U.S. citizen, national, or lawful permanent resident

Habitat AmeriCorps VISTA members commit to 12 months of service and receive a minimal living allowance.

Benefits include: Living Allowance, Health Benefits, In-Service Training Opportunities, Post-service $4,725 Education Award or $1,200 Cash Stipend, and Childcare! Positions begin in August and require a one-year commitment. The Living Allowance amount can range from $833/month to $1230/month gross depending on the VISTA service location. A member may not receive any additional monetary compensation beyond the standard allowances for services rendered as an AmeriCorps*VISTA member; VISTA members are also prohibited from any outside employment while serving.
