SUMMARY OF POSITION DESCRIPTION:

Reporting to the Vice President of Operations, this position provides administrative management and clinical liaison to all aspects of the various oncology services throughout MMC. In conjunction with the Chairman of the Oncology Steering Committee, assists in ensuring that the overall program goals are achieved by participating in the development of clinical and administrative objectives, policies and procedures and by coordinating the delivery of oncology services. Working through subordinate managers, plans and directs the activities of Radiation Therapy, Radiation Physics, Oncology Information Services, Oncology Administration, Outpatient IV Treatment Room, Breast Care Center and the Thoracic Oncology Center. Performs liaison work with other departments and organizations. Work is performed with considerable independence and is evaluated by the Vice President of Operations through reports, discussions and results obtained.

MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

1. Requires verbal, quantitative and interpersonal skills normally acquired through the completion of a Bachelor’s degree, Master’s Degree preferred, and at least five to seven years of previous related experience in order to deal with complex management problems and communicate effectively in a medical center setting, or a related field in order to thoroughly understand and coordinate a multi-discipline oncology program.

2. Approximately five to seven years of progressively more responsible administrative work experience in order to have a thorough understanding of hospital and oncology services function, hospital standards and procedures, applicable state and federal and auditing agency regulations.

3. A high level of interpersonal skills necessary in order to communicate effectively with a wide variety of hospital personnel, outside agency officials in handling highly sensitive issues, gathering and exchanging information, and promoting and maintaining good public relations.

4. A high level of analytical skills necessary in order to develop and implement new systems, techniques, and/or procedures; determine needs for capital equipment, improve the functioning of assigned departments; and prepare special and recurring reports or analyses.

5. Maintains an in-depth experience in management and administration in medical center management.

6. Ability to present facts and express ideas clearly both verbally and in writing.

7. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, departmental personnel, physicians and other hospital personnel.
