Job Description
The Director Research Development and Engineering for Quick Service Restaurants, Food Retail and Specialty markets will assume responsibility for a team of 15 + associates: and will interface regularly with leaders of Regulatory Affairs, Sales and Marketing and Manufacturing within the business. The new Director will assume responsibility for the direction of all innovation and technical activity in support of global Quick Service Restaurants and the Food Retail product portfolio growth. S/he will be expected to work closely with Customer, Marketing and Technical teams to define Voice of the Customer (VOC) needs and innovation opportunities. During the innovation process, s/he will support the Phase 0/1 Ideation Process, ensure new concepts are prioritized within the business sector, and secure appropriate internal and external technical resources to achieve plan objectives. During Phase 2-5 of new product development activities s/he will lead execution excellence. He or she will participate on the corporate RD&E Leadership Team (RDELT) – representing the QSR and Food Retail portfolio. Main Responsibilities

Support portfolio management process to ensure innovation pipeline meets business growth targets
*
Ensures ongoing awareness of technology, competitors, and emerging and disruptive opportunities
*
Drives the effective usage of new product innovation process to deliver new product and service launches according to plan
*
Lead talent development and perform Performance Reviews and prepare Individual Development Plans for associates within his or her team. Incumbent will also be asked to contribute to the annual staffing and talent plan needs globally in support of innovation
*
Manage annual capital and expense budget estimates; salary, travel & entertainment; lab/equipment; product development tooling; etc.
*
Ensures the development and utility of Intellectual Property through patent filings and supports technical notebooks and reports
Basic Qualifications
*
Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, engineering, biology, food science or related scientific/technical discipline and twelve years of experience OR Advanced Degree and 10+ years of experience
*
5+ years experience in product development from introduction to market
*
3+ years exp leading technical associates
*

Preferred Qualifications
*
PhD in Chemistry or Engineering
*
Track record of successful technology development, new product/service launch successes, and experience in leveraging of externally acquired technologies
*
Experience planning and conducting experimental and analytical studies
*
Proven track record of successful supervisory experience and talent development of technical staff
*
Global Exposure
*
Good leadership presence with ability to represent business in customer facing situations
*
Excellent organizational skills and good attention to detail are essential
*
Must have demonstrated initiative and ability to work independently and handle multiple tasks
