Job Description: Eckerd Youth Alternatives, Inc., a leader in alternative treatment programs for youth-at-risk, is seeking an Education Compliance Specialist.
Purpose
The Education Compliance Specialist is responsible for implementing, communicating, and coordinating special and alternative education policies and procedures that are aligned with current best practices, juvenile justice education standards, and state DOE requirements. The compliance specialist collaboratively works as a liaison between EYA programs, contracted school boards, Juvenile Justice Education Departments, and respective State Department of Educations. Key functions are to provide technical assistance in the areas of exceptional student education services, alternative education services, and professional development of EYA instructional staff.
Duties
•Formulates, develops, and implements EYA policy and procedures that will enable programs to comply with educational federal laws, State Board Rules, and legislative mandates that are related to at-risk youth.
•Provide technical assistance related to the development, implementation, and evaluation of special and alternative education programs.
•Monitors the progress of School Improvement Plans and provides assistance in their development, implementation, and evaluation.
•Participates in goal setting and planning process within the EYA education department based upon the organization’s vision, mission and values.
•Solicits teacher input for the development of training goals based upon individual and program needs.
•Provides input for facility staffing and special education service delivery models in conjunction with EYA and local LEA’s.
•Facilitates and monitors professional development opportunities for teachers and education coordinators.
•Plans and conducts professional development opportunities for education staff.
•Coordinates verification process of submitting in-service component points to appropriate agencies for teacher certification renewal.
•Interprets the impact of federal, state, and local school board policy as it relates to special education, adjudicated, and at-risk youth.
•Develops, facilitates, and revises the beginning teacher program based upon state guidelines.
•Monitors teaching practices such as lesson planning, theme development and experiential strategies in order to ensure the educational needs of the youth are being met.
•Prepares reports of all EYA onsite facility visitations for submission to the EYA Director of Educational Services.
•Schedules regular visitations to each program (as deemed necessary) to maintain quality educational assurance in the areas of compliance issues and educational best practices.
•Coordinates state assessment schedules, training, and testing implementation through respective LEA’s.
•Assures ESE accommodations and modifications are provided according to the need of the youth through teacher training and program site visits.
•Initiates beginning education coordinator training and provides assistance to the field for new teacher training when requested.
•Participates in professional development opportunities in the areas of curriculum development, special education, juvenile justice standards, and facilitation strategies.
•Prepares educational updates for dissemination to the field in the areas of curriculum resources, instructional strategies, education legislation, and professional development opportunities.
Position Requirements
Master’s Degree in education. Hold or be eligible for State of Florida professional certification in any special education endorsement area. Minimum of three years in a related professional experience and three years of teaching experience in special education. Must demonstrate experience in curriculum planning, and educational leadership.
