JOB SUMMARY: The Doyon Universal Services (DUS) Generalist is responsible for the day-to-day activity, coordination, and evaluation of the Human Resources function within DUS. The Generalist acts as a consultant to senior management, managers, supervisors and employees in the following areas: management practices; employment practices; human resource development and employee/labor relations.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
• Work in conjunction with the VP of Facilities and Administration to plan, develop, organize, implement and evaluate the organization’s human resource functions and performance.
• Work in conjunction with the VP of Facilities and Administration to develop, implement, and administer policies, procedures, and practices on personnel matters. Communicates changes to personnel policies and procedures and insures compliance.
• Responsible for ensuring quarterly random drug and alcohol testing is conducted in a timely manner and that DUS is in compliance with DOT rules and regulations.
• Act as an on-site advisor to management, supervisors and employees by working directly with department managers to assist them in carrying out their responsibilities on personnel matters.
• Provide on-site and area-wide annual and periodic workforce training.
• Serve as a liaison between Doyon Universal Services and the Human Resource Service Center.
• Work with the Human Resource Service Center on matters such as conduct, performance, dispute resolution, recruitment & retention, training & development, and other related programs.
• Work with management, supervisors, and employees in resolving problems of individual relationships that affect the workplace environment.
• Responsible for labor relations. Represent management in investigating, answering and settling grievances.
• Respond to all EEOC and Human Rights Commission claims.
• Monitor processes and practices to ensure appropriateness, application accuracy, fairness, and documentation prudence.
• Maintain knowledge of employment regulations, industry trends, current practices, new developments, applicable laws, and employment legislation pertaining to all personnel matters.
• Monitor performance evaluation programs.
• Develop and implement retention programs.
• Analyze the need for and conduct workforce training.
• Assure that the Doyon Universal Services’ Human Resource Strategic Plan is monitored, evaluated and adjusted as needed.

• Planning/Organizing – the individual prioritizes and plans work activities, uses time efficiently and develops realistic action plans
• Safety and Security – The individual actively promotes and personally observes safety and security procedures and uses equipment and materials properly
• Must have the ability manage multiple priorities and projects simultaneously
• Knowledge of appropriate procedures for handling sensitive and confidential information
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and the use of email
• Knowledge of principles and procedures for personnel recruitment, selection, training, compensation and benefits, labor relations and negotiation, and personnel information systems
• Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction
• Skilled at using database, spreadsheet, and word-processing software to prepare statistical and written reports with varying degrees of complexity and detail for management
• Skilled in providing full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate
• Ability to travel in / outside of Alaska
QUALIFICATIONS:
• BA/BS in Human Resources, Psychology, Marketing or related field (Will consider combination of post-secondary equivalent and extensive related experience as a substitute for the Bachelors degree on a year-for-year basis.)
• Five (5) years of broad based exempt-level HR experience with demonstrated record of progressive responsibilities required
• 3-years of experience working Office Suite programs (i.e. word, excel, PowerPoint)
• Minimum 2-years direct supervisor experience
• Certification as a Professional in Human Resources (PHR) or Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) required or must sit for the certification within one year of employment
• Experience working with remote North Slope operations preferred
• Experience & knowledge of government contracts preferred
WORKING ENVIRONMENT: The majority of work is performed in a professional office setting with a wide variety of people with differing functions, personalities and abilities. Job requires 20% travel to remote job-sites or surrounding communities.
