Requirements
BASIC FUNCTION
Plan for and assure that the necessary engineering resources are in place to support the development of new processes and the modification of existing processes to improve the effectiveness of manufacturing operations. Assist in the development of new products and manage the transition of those products into manufacturing. Manage the day to day engineering related to all processes used within the Huntsville facility (including, but not limited to material compounding and molding). Support implementation of lean manufacturing principles and quality systems.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
•Direct the day to day efforts of the Process Engineering group
•Develop and implement a process engineering strategy that supports the overall strategic direction of the facility.
•Ensure that capable process engineering resources are in place and provide support for the strategic and tactical implementation at the facility.
•Develop new or improved processes to improve the effectiveness of manufacturing operations.
•Lead and/or support the implementation of quality processes and systems (APQP, PPAP, ISO 9000, Six Sigma).
•Lead development of existing product/process enhancements for improved manufacturability, cost, quality and/or function.
•Support determination of the technical feasibility of new product concepts and potential modifications to existing products.
•Generate, accumulate and disseminate technical data on products needed by persons within the Kohler Company.
•Maintain State of the Art awareness of relevant product and process technologies.
•Lead new process in-plant launch activities.
•Lead in-plant design for manufacturability activities.
RELATIONSHIPS AND CONTACTS
Supervisory Relationships:
•Reports to: Plant Manager
•Supervises: 2 Process Engineers
Organizational Relationships:
•Frequent contact with Marketing to incorporate desired features into products and evaluate feasibility of new products.
•Frequent contact with Manufacturing to improve existing manufacturing processes and to design effective processes for new products.
•Frequent contact with New Product Development to evaluate feasibility of new products and design new processes.
•Frequent contact with Purchasing to evaluate purchased items or materials for product specifications or revisions.
•Frequent contact with Accounting to transmit design cost data, specifications and numbering systems.
•Occasional contact with other company groups, as needed for specific projects.
•Occasional contact with Corporate Management as required.
External Relationships:
•Attend engineering and trade shows / seminars to investigate new products, processes, materials and knowledge of core competencies.
•Has contact with suppliers to obtain cost, material, product and process information.
•Has contact with consultants and engineers to obtain information desired for new or revised products, materials and processes.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline from an ABET accredited engineering program or PE license. Twelve or more years of work experience or advanced technical degree with 10 or more years work experience in a manufacturing operation. Recognized achievement and technical expertise within a professional field or posses in-depth, applied experience in multiple engineering specialties.
