 Job Posting Summary  Matanuska-Susitna (Mat-Su) College is an extended campus of the University of Alaska Anchorage located between Palmer and Wasilla, Alaska and serves the greater Matanuska-Susitna Borough area (an area approximately the size of West Virginia). Surrounded by majestic mountains, the campus is situated on 950 wooded acres just 45 minutes from downtown Anchorage. The college offers both technical and academic degrees at the associate level and courses leading to a Bachelor of Arts (BA) or Bachelor of Science (BS) degree conferred through the Anchorage campus. The college has a student population of 1400-1700 each semester; although the majority of these students are nontraditional, the fastest growing student population group is between 19 to 24 years of age. The college maintains close ties with the local community and school district, and is an integral part of the Anchorage campus.

This position reports directly to the College Director and is responsible for the development and management of the College’s internal and external communications. The Manager’s primary mission is to promote Mat-Su College through coordinated public relations, media relations and well-designed marketing and branding strategies as prescribed by the College’s strategic plan. Additionally, the Marketing Manager will oversee the communications/public affairs components for selected college events and will provide creative direction to all print publications and to the College’s Web site content and design. This position will assist with materials for fund raising and database management of donor, VIP, media and other important contacts. The Marketing Manager will work closely with academic and administrative leadership to implement the College’s communications objectives. The Marketing Manager will serve in an advisory capacity for communications strategies to the College Director. The Marketing Manager will also act as the Public Information Officer for the College, serving as the principal spokesperson for the College with the media.

Demonstrated knowledge of techniques and industry standards for all aspects of communications projects relevant to position, including writing; editing; visual, print and electronic graphic design, Web materials and audio-visual productions; news and feature stories; and marketing and advertising.
Demonstrated knowledge of relevant computer information systems, desktop publishing programs and databases.
Knowledge of and ability to interpret and apply rules, regulations and laws relating to the administration of communications programs/projects.

Typical education or training required for this position (including licenses).  Bachelor’s degree in Public Relations, Journalism, Communications or relevant field or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.   
Length of time and type of experience required for this position.  Substantial progressively responsible experience related to the program, preferably in an educational institution or non profit organization.   
Preferred knowledge, skills or abilities for this position.
