Job Description:

The Division of Juvenile Justice

is recruiting for a Nurse II position.

This position is responsible for providing health care to residents at McLaughlin Youth Center.

We offer a great team environment, staff appreciation, and the opportunity to sharpen assessment skills and work independently.

Under general supervision of a licensed physician, the successful candidate:

Gives skilled nursing care to patients
Provides individualized patient assessment and care
Supports consulting providers
Administers medications and treatments as prescribed by a Physician
Assesses, reports and documents effects of medication or treatment
Provides monthly statistical reports
Responds to emergencies.
The successful candidate will possess some of the following knowledge skills and abilities (KSA’s) and support their KSA’s in their cover letter of the Job Qualification Summary:

Experience working with adolescents with a variety of legal, mental health and/or substance abuse issues.
Ability to work in a locked facility.
Experience working under doctor’s protocols.
Venipuncture experience.
Experience supervising unlicensed personnel.
Telephone triage experience.
The successful candidate’s schedule will be Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with the exception of holidays.

Special Note:
Eligibility for licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Alaska is required.

Some positions are located in institutions providing care for psychiatric or developmentally disabled individuals and require one year experience in these specialized fields.

For some positions in this job class a background investigation including fingerprinting is required.

Minimum Qualifications:

Graduation from a school of nursing accredited by the National League of Nursing or license to practice as a registered nurse in the state of Alaska.
AND
One year of entry level professional nursing. This experience is equivalent to Nurse I with the State of Alaska.

Other combinations of training and experience will be evaluated on an individual basis for comparability; however, there is no substitution for the required training.

Special Requirements: Eligibility for licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Alaska is required.

Some positions are located in institutions providing care for psychiatric or developmentally disabled individuals and require one year experience in these specialized fields.
