Job Description: The Corporate Quality Assurance Department located in Plant City, Florida has an opening for a Quality Control Field Specialist. This position will be located in or around the Plant City, Florida area with frequent assignments in other areas.

Qualifications:

• 4 year college degree in food science/agribusiness or equivalent related industry experience.
• Retail produce knowledge and USDA inspection experience helpful.
• Warehouse receiving experience.
• Fresh produce and/or floral growing, packing and/or harvesting a benefit.
• Good management skills and ability to relate with diverse workforce.
• Strong computer skills including Microsoft Excel, Access, and Word.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Regional growing area knowledge helpful.

Key Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Report key quality control information, based on set Safeway Standards, in a timely manor to the procurement team.
• Work with the QC Managers to quickly reconcile any outstanding vendor issues to continually maintain good vendor relationships.
• Work in tandem with the QC Managers and the procurement team to answer any questions with regard to product quality, packs, or food safety issues.
• Proactively work with vendors to assure proper handling of fresh products, to include harvest, post harvest, and warehousing techniques.
• Periodically meet with vendors to review performance and identify opportunities for improvement.
• Analyze warehouse rejections to establish inspection priorities and to identify corrective action plans. Create period reports and summaries to track performance of vendors and corrective action plans.
• Proactively search for new and improving vendors of quality products and advise the QC Managers and procurement team of your findings.
• Work in tandem between and in coordination with the procurement team and vendors to accommodate mutually beneficial long term crop planning.
• Long term temporary living assignments (a company car is provided).
• Travel 70-80%.
