Overall Responsibilities: The Supply Planners are primarily responsible for executing the Supply Planning Order strategy against the material forecast to ensure the proper quantities are available at the appropriate time and to ensure the highest level of customer service with the lowest overall cost of ownership. Supply Planners also load and maintain purchasing requisitions, maintain accurate vendor assignment through managing the purchase info record and source list information, and focus on customer service through timely backorder management. The Supply Planners interface directly with Demand Planners, Project Managers, Customer Service, Sales, and both Houghton Mifflin Harcourt and Williams Lea Buyers. The Supply Planners also work with cross-site / cross-functional teams to establish and communicate best practices.

- Work with the Demand Planners to determine order quantity and delivery date based upon the MRP forecast
- Coordinate with the Project Managers to determine first print quantities, delivery dates, as well as sourcing and second print strategies
- Effectively manage seasonal ordering patterns – e.g. state submission requirements, obsolesce reviews, Piloting and sampling requirements, etc.
- Fulfill orders through stock transfers, depository returns, kit decollations, etc.
- Participate in production meetings
- Effectively manage workflow
- Minimize backorder quantities
- Maintain gross inventory and obsolesce reserves
- Analyze and status daily, weekly, and monthly reports
Requirements - BS / BA in business related field strongly preferred
- Strong analytical skills required
- Must be a self-starter and work with limited supervision
- Focus on high levels of customer service
- Excellent computer skills – intermediate to advanced Excel; basic Access
- 1 – 3 years experience in Materials Planning and/or Supply Chain
- SAP / BW experience preferred
- APICS certification preferred
- Experience in publishing preferred
