Description QiNetiQ North America is currently seeking a Network Communications Technician to maintain smooth operation of local area, wide area and virtual private networks (VPN) supporting our customers in solving mission critical technology challenges of national significance. We provide senior level support in the definition and resolution of all equipment and data communications network problems to ensure service continuity to all users for the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) network. Candidates must possess the ability to function well in a high-paced, rapidly-changing environment and perform multiple tasks in a timely and accurate manner.
Requirements • Responsible for coordinating operations between local vendors and technicians, performing repair services, and assisting in the operation and troubleshooting of various systems as well as testing & assisting in the imp limitation of newer equipment.
• Responsible for drafting and submitting reports relevant to the daily operations of Wireless Network Operations Center (WNOC).
• Execute extensive troubleshooting using Motorola voice/data transmission test sets, Digital Voice Modems, Console Interface Units (CIU), and CENTRACOM Gold Series Consoles.
• Accountable for monitoring alarms and warning systems; and properly maintaining records on down times, outages, updates, and repairs using REMEDY, and local applications.
• Assist in the performance of Over the Air Rekey (OTAR) on Digital Interface Units and Motorola hand held radios.
• Ensures that the base station or mobile unit two-way radio communication is maintained continuously between officers and other law enforcement/public safety Agencies.
• Consults with outside vendors on all issues related to telecommunications, computers, hardware, software, and related matters.
• Evaluates the utility and condition of multi-line telephone systems, paging systems, radio base station equipment and other data and voice communications equipment; Uses hand tools and diagnostic equipment appropriate for installation, maintenance and repair of electronic communications equipment;
• Utilizes specialized test equipment and diagnostics to locate and correct faults and trouble in the computer system and associated peripheral equipment.
• Evaluates the utility and condition of consoles, map boards, or other control or display systems in relation to the daily activities.
• Demonstrates continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes, and work cooperatively and jointly to provide quality seamless customer service
• Diagnose problems or malfunctions and accomplish repairs in a minimal amount of time.
• Remain aware of changes in the field and WNOC by reading emails, attending training, and by actively participating in the day-to-day activities of the job.
• Work cooperatively with other Customs and Border Protection Technicians.
• Communicate orally in the English language with individuals in a face-to-face, one-on-one setting or by telephone.
• Comprehend and make inferences from material written in the English language and understand and follow complex schematics, circuit diagrams, work sheets, floor plans, electrical wiring plans, and related documents.
• Work under pressure, handling significant problems or tasks which come up simultaneously or unexpectedly.
• Effectively build, install, and maintain custom wiring for network and LMR equipment.
• Familiar with the Level 1 and Level 2 Help Desk environment.
