Description
SouthernLINC Wireless has an immediate opening in our Birmingham, AL location for an entry-level to mid-level Telecommunications Technician. One to five years of experience in a Network Operations Center (NOC) is preferred. The Telecommunications Technicians’ primary responsibilities are to provide network monitoring and first level troubleshooting – using alarm events, reports, charts and graphs – of the SouthernLINC Wireless iDEN Network in SouthernLINC Wireless’ Network Operations Center (NOC). This position requires 24×7x365 coverage with rotating shift schedules.
JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Specific responsibilities of the Telecommunications Technician include:
* Monitoring all network events and alarms from various network managing sources.
* Providing first level troubleshooting support by reviewing miscellaneous reports, charts and alarm management systems to identify and provide solutions to issues/trends.
* Managing the workforce trouble ticketing system from start to finish (creating, assigning, tracking, documenting, and closing out trouble tickets).
* Providing daily phone support for field technicians, technical customer issues, and miscellaneous vendors within a telecommunications environment.
* Position progression will lead to assisting with maintenance evolutions within the infrastructure, which includes the testing of T-1 circuits, cross connecting panel wiring, creating and implementing software configuration changes, replacing faulty cards, and maintaining documentation records.
The successful candidates must have the ability to perform and organize multiple, simultaneous tasks in a fast-paced, challenging environment. A solid technical mindset, strong problem solving skills, a detail-oriented approach, and interpersonal behaviors consistent with Southern Company’s culture are essential for this role.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Education Requirements:
* Associates degree or higher in Computer Science, Electronics, or Telecommunications, or related field, comparable work experience, or military training is preferred.
* FCC Certification is desirable
Experience Requirements:
* This is an opportunity to fill this position with an entry to mid–level person with one to five years of Network Operations Center (NOC) experience
* Previous job-related experience monitoring network alarms, troubleshooting, or diagnosing problems
* Experience using communications test equipment
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
* Ability to successfully qualify on Southern Company’s Technician Occupations Selection Systems test (TECH 00028) is required to move further in the process. * Must have a strong proficiency for learning and retaining technical processes
* Ability to work a rotating shift schedule is required
