Our National Security Global Business is currently seeking a Hazardous Materials Transportation Analyst to lead projects in the Hazardous Materials Transport (HMT) research cell at our Washington Transportation Operations office located in Washington, D.C.
JOB DESCRIPTION
-Conducting risk analyses relevant to the transportation of hazardous materials (hazmat) in the United States
-Proposal and development of emergency management practices for dealing with hazmat incidents
-Contributing to the body of research produced by the TRB and similar clients; preparing reports documenting and summarizing research activities suitable for application by clients and Battelle’s HMT research team to policy and regulatory issues
REQUIREMENTS
-BS in engineering, science, transportation or related discipline with 10 years experience working on projects involving the transportation of hazardous materials. Masters degree may be substituted for 2 years of experience
-Strong written and verbal communication skills
-Competence in the application of basic analytical tools
-Familiarity with the DOT hazardous materials regulations for all transport modes, an understanding of the types of packagings used for the safe transport of hazardous materials and their modes of failure in a transportation accident environment
-A general understanding of accident causation including human factors and the role of human behavior when evaluating transport accident risk
-Knowledge about emergency response procedures for hazardous materials accidents
-Expertise with hazmat regulatory, policy and issue analysis
DESIRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
-Knowledge about the role of hazardous materials transportation in our economy
-Familiarity with incident reporting systems and databases and with some statistical tools
-Business development experience: identifying, cultivating, and supporting new projects, partners, and contracts
-Ability to work effectively with a multidisciplinary project team and coordinate closely with clients on the production of work products
