Dell’s Nashua, New Hampshire Design Center is looking for a talented technical communicator who can complement the existing Product Documentation team by providing content design and information architect skills. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing, developing, and editing technical content that is optimized for retrieval, reuse, and globalization.
Perform content analysis of existing NDC product documentation.
Identify information structures, appropriate content models / templates.
Rewrite content as required for enhanced understanding, reuse, and globalization.
Parse content for appropriate delivery models and presentation formats.
Assist in the design and development of XML DITA structured templates that facilitate single-sourcing and dynamic delivery of Print, Online PDF, HT(X)ML, and CHM output media.
Define, plan, scope, and schedule required changes to the documentation set, targeting appropriate releases.
Support senior writers in editing existing content, composing new or revised content, and conducting interviews with product experts.
Support the development and delivery of new content modules by creating standalone task-oriented content.
Revise existing publications to incorporate new product releases or features.
Update sections of information components, documents, or help systems.
Effectively explain product features, applications, and instructions to appropriate audiences.
Combine quality communication and proactive research techniques with aptitude for writing about software products.
Make decisions affecting document format.
Show flexibility and good judgment in working with other project team members.
Observe quality processes and realize that complete and accurate information is important to product success and that incomplete information may delay project and increase costs.
Contribute to policy and procedure documents.
Provide input to the development of training materials.
Manage own work according to a plan developed by project manager.
Experience in the storage industry, preferred.
10+ years relevant experience in the field of technical communication OR a graduate degree plus 5+ years of experience OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
5+ years experience with content management systems, structured content design, and modular authoring.
5+ years experience with global delivery and simultaneous content localization.
Excellent writing and communication skills.
Proven project management skills.
Proven experience in an application software environment.
Proven experience with Word, FrameMaker, XML, HTML, RoboHelp.
Able to quickly learn and apply knowledge.
Strong analytical ability.
Able to work in a fast-paced, complex, technical environment.
Self starter who can work independently and meet deadlines.
