JOB SUMMARY:
The Oscar G. Johnson VA Medical Center, Iron Mountain, MI., is announcing the following position: A full-time Motor Vehicle Operator who operates passenger vehicles, tractors, trucks (gross weight 22,000 pounds), power equipment, snow removal equipment (gross vehicle weight 17,000 pounds).
THE INCUMBENT WILL BE REQUIRED TO WORK ROTATING 12 HOUR SHIFTS AND MAY BE ASSIGNED TO WORK A VARIETY OF SHIFTS TO MEET DEPARTMENT NEEDS.
The Iron Mountain VA is located in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan and is part of the VA’s Great Lakes Health Care System in the Veteran’s Integrated Service Network (VISN 12). The Medical Center and its community clinics/sites serve eligible veterans in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan (fifteen counties) and Northeast Wisconsin (eleven counties). Duties

1 vacancy – Upper Peninsula, MI
The incumbent will transport patients, both ambulatory and wheelchair, operates passenger busses on schedules or special runs from one location to another, operates the trucks, tractors, snow removal, material handling and general hauling necessary to maintenance. Will be responsible for maintaining and repair of VA grounds equipment such as lawn movers, push or tractor type, edgers, snow blowers and related equipment. Performs preventive maintenance n VA and GSA equipment such as checking oil, tires, batteries, solutions, cooling systems, fan belts or other noticeable leaks in transmissions, differentials, etc., and sees that repairs are made. Performs labor duties when assigned. Incumbent will also keep tools and areas that pertain to his work clean and neat at all times.

Qualifications and Evaluations
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
Must have a valid State Driver’s License, CDL with a Class B-P endorsement, and a U.S. Government Operator’s License to drive all types of vehicles.
The incumbent will need to obtain a CPR/Defibrillator certification upon appointment. Training will be provided thru the VA.
May be exposed to extremes of hot and cold temperatures and all types of weather conditions.
May be exposed to long hours of driving.
Work will involve lifting, pushing, pulling, stooping, climbing and working in cramped positions.
You will be rated on the following elements: Ability to do the work of the position without more than normal supervision; Operation of motor vehicle (Screen-Out) (Please provide a copy of valid CDL with supplemental); Ability to interpret instructions relating to the operation of motor vehicles; Ability to drive safely; Reliability and dependability as a motor vehicle operator
You must be a U.S. citizen to qualify for this position.
Candidate must successfully complete and clear a background investigation.
Applicants for this position must pass a pre-employment medical examination.
