Job Description

The Network and Linux Administrator is a full time role and will report to the Director of Information Systems.​ The role will be based in one of our Houston IT Support Office.​ The individual in this role will be required to carry a BlackBerry and be reachable off hours for Network and Infrastructure matters that are time sensitive.​

Description

Lead the design, implementation, and maintenance of the organizations network and Linux server (hardware and software) infrastructure.​ This includes ensuring the security and integrity of all data, data systems, and data networks.​

Responsibilities

* Perform on-site analysis, diagnosis, and resolution hardware and software problems of IT networking infrastructure and Linux servers.​ Recommend and implement corrective solutions, including off-site repair at remote offices or co-locations as needed.​
* Receive and respond to incoming requests, calls, pages, and/​or e-mails, regarding hardware and software problems, including after hours emergency support.​
* Perform preventative maintenance, including checking of servers and networking equipment.​
* Ensure latest security and update patches are installed.​
* Maintain security solutions, including firewall, penetration scanning and intrusion detection systems.​
* Maintain all network hardware and equipment, including routers, switches, hubs, and UPSs.​
* Troubleshoot network and telephony connection issues, contact vendor and schedule for repair if necessary.​
* Test fixes and perform post-resolution follow-ups to ensure problems have been adequately resolved.​
* Prepare, maintain, and uphold procedures for logging, reporting, and statistically monitoring IT infrastructure operations.​
* Develop and maintain an inventory of all network equipment, servers and associated software.​
* Accurately document instances of equipment or component failure, repair, installation, and removal.​
* Expunge all proprietary and confidential data from systems no longer used by a staff member; ensure destruction of any hard drives removed from general use.​
* Liaise with third-party support and equipment vendors, as necessary.​
* Write technical specifications and receive quotes for purchase of hardware and software.​
* Identify and learn appropriate hardware and software used and supported by the organization.​
* Perform system backups and recovery.​
* Participate in the development of long-term strategies and capacity planning for meeting future hardware and corporate technology needs.​
* Develop and establish disaster recovery procedures for the restoration of mission-critical business applications in the event of natural disasters, technical failures, power outages, and human interference.​
* Maintain the disaster recovery plan, updating each quarter and upon any signification infrastructure change.​
* Recommend and implement disaster avoidance strategies and impact reduction strategies.​
* Perform and analyze disaster simulations for the prompt restoration of infrastructure services.​

Skills/​Qualifications

* College diploma or university degree in the field of computer science is desirable or equivalent industry experience and/​or certifications
* 5 – 10 years of Networking and Linux Admin experience
* Ability to manage multiple concurrent tasks
* Strong written and verbal communications skills
* Effective interpersonal skills
* Ability to present ideas in user-friendly language.​
* Analytical and problem-solving abilities, with keen attention to detail.​
* Understanding of HIPAA guidelines as it pertains to data and network infrastructure
* Strong technical knowledge of IT infrastructure, hardware, and software
* Ability to learn new technologies and programs as they become relevant and introduced into the Intermedix environment
* Ability to keep up with current computing trends and good practices
* Hands-on hardware troubleshooting experience
* Working technical knowledge of TCP/​IP, including DHCP, DNS, WINS
* Thorough understanding of Linux operating systems (Red Hat, etc.​)
* Able to read and understand technical manuals and procedural documentation
* Ability to conduct research into issues and products as required
* Self motivated and directed, with the ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.​
