Summary
Founded in 1923, the Social Science Research Council (SSRC) is a nonprofit, nongovernmental organization, with an annual operating budget of approximately $20 million, devoted to the advancement of interdisciplinary research in the social sciences. It seeks to bring necessary knowledge to public issues through a wide variety of interdisciplinary workshops and conferences, fellowships and grants, summer training institutes, scholarly exchanges, research consortia and publications. The SSRC seeks a Finance Assistant to provide general support to the finance department. This position will receive broad exposure to different aspects of non-profit management. The Assistant will report directly to the Budget Officer.

Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree
1-2 years of related experience. Previous experience in a non-profit environment is desirable.
Proficient in Access and MS Office, including MS Word, MS Excel, MS Access and Internet applications.
Ability to multi-task and prioritize daily activities to meet competing deadlines.
Excellent organizational skills with strong attention to detail.
Good analytical and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Willingness to learn new skills and work on different projects.
Responsibilities
Process wire transfer payments and record entries in accounting system.
Create and maintain accurate grant files.
Maintain travel advance database.
Assist with processing corporate card and travel and expense vouchers, and the preparation and posting of these journal entries.
Respond to questions from staff and assist with budget training for new staff.
Assist the Budget Officer with various audit functions.
Administrative tasks including, but not limited to, file maintenance, creating and maintaining databases and spreadsheets, reconcilations and various other projects within the Finance Department as the need arises.
Responsible for system postings including general journal entries and monthly allocations (postage, duplication, telephone, travel).
Maintenance of the telephone code database and the telephone accounting software.
Maintenance of the professional development and tuition reimbursement database
Deposits; manage deposit cash by following established procedure
Create and post reclassification entries
Coordinate facilitation of work between main office (Brooklyn Heights) and Staten Island finance office.
Occasional travel to work in Staten Island office.
Terms, Salary and Benefits
