Legal Technician – Temporary, Full-time

| Collects financial and medical support on behalf of children by performing functions necessary for the intake, establishment, enforcement, or modification of child support and foster care orders for public assistance, non public assistance and interstate cases. | |
| Examples of Important and Essential Duties: | |

| • Provides customer service to custodial parents, non-custodial parents and their attorneys and employers by answering case related questions, explaining the enforcement remedies, describing the legal responsibilities of the parties and giving case updates. Contacts custodial and noncustodial parents to request additional information and remind parties of payments that are delinquent. • Reviews case information, determining the appropriate course of action to establish or enforce financial and medical support based upon case circumstances and legal requirements. Conducts case research as needed, including researching Colorado Revised Statues, case law, court records, minute orders, ACSES and Records Management to determine legal status of the case and appropriate follow-up action. Consults with the assistant county attorney as needed. • Conducts locate functions to determine non-custodial parents’ address, employment and assets in order to initiate legal and administrative actions to establish or enforce medical and financial support. Gathers financial and employment information. Calculates child support and arrearage payment amounts. • Prepares motions, petitions, orders and other legal pleadings. • Monitors and works computer generated reports related to the case payment status, employment history of the non-custodial parent, availability of medical support, administrative enforcement remedies and other related case information. Works computer generated calendar reviews and case alerts to update case information and follow up on computer generated remedies. • Meets with parties and/or attorneys to conduct intake interviews, provide case status to custodial and noncustodial parents, review updated case information, and reach quasi-judicial agreements through negotiation conferences with the parties related to the establishment of paternity and financial and medical support. Negotiates lump sum payments as appropriate. • Prepares cases for court hearings by reviewing case information, advising the assistant county attorney of the county’s position on legal matters, preparing court exhibits and organizing the case file. Appears at court hearings as needed to testify about case specifics as well as payment history and arrearage amounts and to negotiate agreements between the parties. • Performs related duties and responsibilities as required. |

| Requirements: | |
| Legal Technician- Experience Three years full-time public contact work experience, one year that must include eligibility determination, legal secretarial, collections, or paralegal experience. Training License or Certificate |
