Position Summary
Primary Accountabilities
Plans and evaluates complex existing network systems and performs design and installation, configuration, load balancing and ongoing maintenance of network devices.
Provides highly skilled technical guidance in reviewing and recommending appropriate hardware/software solutions and oversees the installation of routers, firewalls, servers, switches, voice over IP, and voice mail, as job requirements specify.
Directs personnel actions, including recruiting, new hire actions, interviewing and selection of staff, reviews, and salary determinations.
Develops technical standards and interface applications, evaluation of new products and provides resolution for highly complex network problems or issues.
Oversees work assignments to support, install, maintain and troubleshoot LAN, WAN or voice communication devices and related software for remote offices and internal and external networks.
May interface with vendors to identify and purchase hardware and software.
Provide guidance for the creation and maintenance of documentation for data and voice networks.
Maintains and increases professional and technical knowledge by attending workshops, reviewing professional publications, or participating in professional development activities.
Performs other duties as assigned or apparent.
Knowledge Skills & Abilities
Five to seven years in LAN switching, WAN experience or telecommunications equipment is preferred. Proven experience in Cisco routing and switching technologies, UNIX and Microsoft operating systems, the TCP/IP suite of protocols, or PBX programming and installation is strongly preferred.
Must have knowledge and/or experience in Information Security and Network Management Systems, Foundry, Avaya voice technologies, MMA, Interchange, or Veramark call accounting systems. Meru, Juniper, and Citrix NetScalar strongly preferred.
Knowledge and proven skill with highly complex network technologies and concepts strongly preferred.
Must have knowledge and skill with hardware and software required for connectivity and installation operations, or call routing protocols to implement, optimize, and maintain routing structures.
Must possess the ability to prioritize and perform multiple tasks simultaneously.
Must have the ability to be on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week in the event that services are required. May be required to work maintenance windows and/or shift work at nights and weekends.
Must have the ability to relay highly complex technical information to non-technical individuals and the ability to interact with end users to determine or diagnose network issues.
