Description
Serve as Secretary in the First Year Engineering Advising Office and work with student and parent queries in terms of answering, forwarding, sending to voicemail, or referring to another office while creating a welcoming, yet professional atmosphere. This requires knowledge of the School of Engineering Education and College of Engineering structure. The person in this position must constantly work at keeping departmental lines of communication open as well as fostering respect and professionalism . This individual may also be requested to provide clerical support to faculty and staff members in the First-Year Engineering Program.
Qualifications
Required:
- High school diploma or GED.
- Two years secretarial / clerical experience with customer service exposure or related higher education.
- Strong oral and written communication, including telephone etiquette skills.
- Ability to analyze and interpret University policies and procedures.
- Excellent customer service skills and professionalism in dealing with students, parents and faculty.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to influence and build work relationships among a diverse workforce at all levels.
- Strong organizational and time management skills with emphasis on accuracy and attention to detail.
- Motivated individual with ability to efficiently multi task, work under pressure, handle interruptions and meet deadlines.
- Ability to identify and determine problems, analyze information and implement solutions.
- Capable of taking initiative, assuming responsibility and handling confidential information with discretion.
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
- Must possess a learning orientation to changing technology.
- Proficiency in software : Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook/ Electronic Email.
Preferred:
- Working knowledge of Banner and COGNOS,
- University – related experience.
- College coursework in the area of business / management , organizational leadership, or psychology
