Do you follow the same old safe, predictable pattern as 99% of all people do when it comes to searching for a job? Do you send your cover letter and resume ONE TIME and one time only-to no one in particular or, “To whom it may concern?”

Today, you’re about to discover my 5 simple secrets for landing any job you desire.

SECRET #1 – The “special place” to send your cover letter and resume.

This ’special place’ is actually the office of the specific person who schedules interviews!

That’s right, whenever possible send your application to an actual living and breathing, decision-making person. Address your cover letter to this specific individual by name. Do whatever it takes to get that name.

Important: If this is a job posting online and you simply can’t find the proper person’s name, ADDRESS THAT ISSUE, early in your cover letter.

Example: “I am really interested in this position and wanted you to know that I did try to find the person’s name to address my letter. I am quite confident your name is not “To whom it may concern.” J (A dash of humor can go a long way to show you’re personal side).

Most job seekers address their cover letters like this: To whom it may concern: Dear Sirs: Dear hiring manager: Dear Madam: Cue the ’snoozzzzze button.’ J What do these job hunters have in common? Blindfolds! If they hit the desired target, it’s a lucky shot. First, you must find out where the bulls eye is, then you take aim and fire away.

Decide WHAT you’re searching for and exactly WHO you’re sending your cover letter and resume to whenever possible. This focused approach will yield the fastest results.

COVER LETTER TIP: Keep your cover letter personal, friendly, enthusiastic and brief (one page max). I repeat, personal, friendly, enthusiastic and brief! And don’t be afraid to actually ASK for the interview towards the end of your cover letter. (Source – Amazing Cover Letters)

SECRET #2 – DO IT AGAIN!

That’s right! Send the same person another cover letter and resume.

This is referred to as a ‘follow-up cover letter.’ As a rule of thumb, wait 7 days to 10 days and if you have not been called for an interview, send the same person a follow-up cover letter attached with your resume giving you a SECOND CHANCE at the job.

So simple so powerful.

Follow-up cover letters mathematically DOUBLE your chances of getting interviewed. You’ll be doing what 99% of all job seekers don’t do. Oh how scary. J

Doesn’t this make perfect sense to you? Take the time to contact the company you’d like to work for twice, and you are likely to get noticed the second time around. Most job seekers give up after sending one application for the job. Don’t make that mistake especially when it’s so easy to send a follow-up cover letter.

FOLLOW-UP COVER LETTER TIP: The only change to this cover letter from the original is the first paragraph. State to the same person that you are following up after your first contact, letting him or her know that you’re still interested, enthusiastic and available for the position. (Source – Amazing Cover Letters)

SECRET #3 – DIAL AN INTERVIEW

How would you like to do something really special? Get on the phone and make a follow-up PHONE CALL as well! If you want the job you’ve got to go after it. This important and easy step – making a phone call – will insure that you are a persistent and responsible go-getter – a person any company would want to hire.

Don’t worry too much about “bothering” someone with your phone call. Use common sense and be polite.

Can you imagine a company that is not looking for this type of employee? By following up on your first contact you are not only twice as likely to get noticed and interviewed, but you are sure to make a positive impression.

FOLLOW UP PHONE CALL TIP: Make this call about the same time you send your follow-up cover letter. Phone the same person you had contacted the first time around. Remind him or her of your original and follow-up letters. Re-state your interest and show your passion for this position and ASK for the job interview. (Source – Amazing Cover Letters)

SECRET #4 – TRIPLE your chances of getting hired with

The ‘Post-Interview Cover letter!’

Here’s a completely overlooked and incredibly effective cover letter that can single-handedly land you the job.

After any job interview, send the person who conducted your interview a ‘post-interview cover letter’ that says thank you for the opportunity. Restate your passion, enthusiasm, availability and interest in being hired for the job. And of course, I encourage you to make a post-interview phone call as well if it feels right to do so. If the interview went especially well you can comment on that too.

How can a company possibly resist taking a chance on hiring someone who shows so much energy and persistence for landing the job? You’re becoming irresistible!

POST-INTERVIEW COVER LETTER TIP: Obviously you want to address this letter by name to the person who conducted the interview. You’ll also want to keep this cover letter friendly, enthusiastic and very brief (one or two paragraphs max). Don’t be afraid to ASK for the job! (Brought to you by Amazing Cover Letters)

SECRET #5 – RINSE AND REPEAT!

Use Secrets 1-4 over and over targeting companies you have a passion to work for. Otherwise your job search lacks direction and focus. Dare to be different and PERSISTENT. If you don’t, you are simply joining the masses in the typical, disappointing search for another J–O–B!

“The person who goes farthest is generally the one who is willing to do and dare. The sure-thing boat never gets far from the shore.” – Dale Carnegie

You need to have a great resume, but you also need an amazing cover letter to get the attention of the potential employer. There are a places you can look for a job application cover letter sample to help you in designing your own cover letter. However, some samples are better than others, so you will need to know how to determine if what you are looking at is a good job application cover letter sample.

Check to see if it has any spelling or typing errors. A key component of a good cover letter is to run it through spell check and read it over. A person writing a quality job application cover letter sample for you to use knows how important it is for you to make that great first impression through proper grammar and spelling.

Another point that a good job application cover letter sample will make is that you need to address the cover letter to the person in charge hiring you. Yes, some places have a personnel department where your cover letter and resume will go to hibernate for a while, but most people in charge of hiring have a name. A good job application cover letter sample will show that you need to address it to a person rather than “to whom it may concern.”

A good job application cover letter sample may be helpful in giving you an idea of how to draw up an attention grabbing cover letter, but you should change things around into your own words. You want to use your cover letter to give the employer a chance to get to know you, not Job Application Cover Letter Sample Author. A good job application cover letter sample should be a starting point for your cover letter, not a cookie-cutter letter to attach to your resume.

Taking the job application cover letter sample and making it your own unique cover letter also means doing some research into the company to which you are going to be sending a resume and gearing the letter to that particular company. This means that you will need to change some of the content of the job application cover letter to reflect the industry you are considering. By making this change to the job application cover letter, you will be showing the potential employer that you have given them some thought and consideration.

1. Use the KISS principal (Keep It Simple Stupid). An effective cover letter is short, sweet, and to the point. Your cover letter should never be more than 1 page and should never be overly wordy.

2. In the opening paragraph, state your reason for writing the letter and refer to the specific position you are applying for.

3. The body of your cover letter must give details regarding your work experience and skills. However, this is much more powerful when you can provide specific examples.

4. Personalize your cover letter. Stay away from mass mailing expressions such as “To Whom it May Concern”. Address the letter directly to the person responsible for the hiring. If you don’t know the person’s name, do not hesitate to call the company and ask.

5. Start your cover letter off with a bang by putting the most impressive material first. Do not assume the reader will go through your complete cover letter. You must grab their attention form the very first line.

6. Make sure your cover letter passes the “scan test”. Never forget that many human resource departments must go through thousands of applications per day. Therefore, you should bullet the important points. This makes your cover letter more reader friendly and will also grab the reader’s attention. Think about other innovative ways to make your cover letter pass the “scan test”.

7. Take the initiative to contact the employer after they receive your cover letter. Remind the employer that you are a prospective candidate and ask about the status of the job.

8. Always check your cover letter for spelling mistakes. Do not let your chance of getting the job slip away by making silly spelling mistakes. Do a spell-check on your computer then print the cover letter and re-check the hard copy for mistakes. Also, since it is often difficult to find your own spelling mistakes make sure to ask someone else to read your cover letter as well. A fresh set of eyes can help pick out those mistakes.

9. Create a “professional” looking cover letter by printing your cover letter on high-grade paper.

10. Re-read your cover letter after a couple of days. Once you have completed your cover letter put it away for a couple of days and then go back and re-read your cover letter. You’ll be surprised at what you discover.
